If you’re in the market for a small Land Rover and the Range Rover Evoque is too rakish for your tastes, try the Discovery Sport on for size. It shares many of its underpinnings with the Evoque, but has an upright body more evocative of Land Rover’s classic SUV designs.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
All-new for 2020, this year’s Discovery Sport gets a new infotainment system called Pivi Pro, which introduces a bunch of handy new features, like the ability to monitor off-road performance through the touchscreen -- which powers up as soon as you open the Disco Sport’s door. Also new is an air filtration system that can trap really small particles.
Conspicuous by its absence among the Disco Sport’s 2021 specs is last year’s more-potent mild hybrid powertrain.
Available Trims
Land Rover offers the Discovery Sport in R-Dynamic S, SE, R-Dynamic SE and R-Dynamic HSE trim levels. All use a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine, a nine-speed transmission, and four-wheel drive. The Disco Sport starts as a five-seater and can be optioned with two more third-row seats.
Standard Features
S trim’s exterior comes with 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, heated/power-folding side mirrors with driver’s auto-dimming, and rain-sensing wipers.
Inside, S buyers get an auto-dimming rearview mirror, integrated garage door remote, 12-way power/heated front seats, leather upholstery, a heated/leather-trimmed steering wheel, a six-speaker stereo, 10-inch infotainment touchscreen, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration.
The Discovery Sport’s standard safety and driver assists package comprises 360-degree camera views, forward collision detection with automatic braking, cruise control with speed limiter, wade sensing, traffic sign recognition, blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, driver condition monitor, and front and rear parking sensors.
SE adds 20-inch wheels, auto-leveling headlights with signature lighting, automatic high beams, a power tailgate, rear cross traffic monitor, clear exit, and a digital gauge cluster.
HSE trim brings a camera-based rearview mirror, 14-way power front seats, passive keyless entry, Windsor leather upholstery, adaptive cruise control, and a 12-speaker Meridian stereo.
Key Options
A cold climate package adds a heated windshield and headlight washers. A hot climate pack brings an air quality sensor, two-zone climate control, and a cabin air purification system.
A convenience pack bundles a power-adjustable steering column with a wearable activity key, and cargo organization tools.
The family package brings the third-row seat, a panoramic roof, and extra cooling vents for the rear cabin.
Standalone options include wireless smartphone charging and a WiFi hotspot.

Land Rover’s fuel consumption estimates for the Discovery Sport are 12.7/10.0 L/100 km (city/highway).
Competition
The Discovery Sport is Land Rover’s pitch in the compact luxury crossover class. There, its primary competition is from German models like the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Audi’s Q5, and Porsche’s Macan; other European models like the Volvo XC60, Alfa Romeo’s Stelvio, and the Jaguar E-Pace; Japanese offerings include the Acura RDX, Lexus NX, and Infiniti QX50 models; and America’s Cadillac XT5, Lincoln Corsair, and Buick Envision.
